Children play every day. Play comes naturally to them and yet for children, play is also learning. Children learn through play experiences and it is essential to their personal growth and development. Because children use play to engage and understand the world around them, it’s important for parents to be engaged in these play activities in meaningful ways. One recent survey indicated that 50% of children under 5 years old are not getting enough time to play. But play is essential to a child’s development and a parent’s attachment to them. Children develop cognitive and social skills, physical abilities and emotional strength through play. Because self-regulation is one of the most important skills for school readiness, play helps children develop emotional control and social competence that helps them grow in empathy and emotional intelligence. Play also reduces stress for children and opens possibilities for spontaneity, fun, and freedom to explore their inner world.

Entering into a child’s world through play gives a parent a window into their child’s mind and heart and also communicates care and value to the child. But how do parents make play meaningful? If you are interested in learning how to enhance your play time with your child and deepening your connection with them, please join us at Connecting with Your Child Through Play on Wednesday, June 8 from 11:30am to 1:00pm. Counselor Caroline McKee, MABC, LPC, will lead this seminar and discussion on connection and play and you will have the opportunity to schedule one-on-one counseling play and training with Caroline at a later date and time. The cost is $25 and limited childcare is available. Please register HERE contact Caroline at caroline.mckee@christtheking.com for more information.
